    I had a great time at this restaurant. My server was excellent, friendly and informative. Gazpacho was AMAZING. As a vegetarian it was a little tricky picking an entrée- I ended up getting a pasta that was packed with veggies, however I could easily make it myself for less than 5$. Lake side view is way worth it. Beautiful atmosphere. Great drinks. Coming back for sure. Thanks!

    The food here is amazing. I've been a few times now, ordering something different every time, and it's always perfect. The clam chowder soup is superb, as are the crab cakes. I've had a few different shrimp dishes, which were all top notch as well. Everyone I've been with each time I've visited has had nothing but good things to say. The service has always been great, and the atmosphere is probably my favorite out of any place I've been. Love it

    We love it here and have stayed several times. This past Sunday we enjoyed a beautiful and tasty brunch with some friends. Food and service were great. A bit slow on drinks from the bar but nothing to worry about. The buildings are outdated but that is okay - once inside the view of the river and the food make this a non-issue. The rooms are cool and each one is decorated differently, it's fun when you do get to stay. Who knows what your room will look like. I love that about this place no cookie cutter rooms where all of them are exactly the same.

    I take my wife to this place for our anniversary. I fly around the country and eat all over the place. So I'm used to fine dining especially using my expense account. We called ahead to get reservations and got a table on the water. They Gave us a menu with happy anniversary on it just like Mortons Steakhouse and misspelled our names. We ordered the goat cheese salad and it was pretty good. But then in the middle of the salad they start hustling us for a Landrey's restaurant affinity card for 25 bucks. I'm trying to have a romantic meal with my wife and I get marketing crap. Are these guys too stupid to know what segment of the market they're appealing to? Cheap hucksterism during a fine dining experience really pisses me off. What idiot at corporate came up with this game plan? I, for one, will never go to another Landreys And last time I dropped about six bills at Morton's. I had the waSabe Pea encrusted tuna. It was bland and flavorless. The accompanying vegetables were overdone and tasted moldy. The rice was piled in a geometric shape in the middle and was also flavorless. My wife had the chicken Pinot Grigio. Two breasts of chicken deep-fried covered with cheese and slapped on top of linguine swimming in oil and wine. Similarly flavorless and accompanied with a few diced tomatoes. The deals here seem to be the 3 PM to 6 PM sunset specials: three-course meal for 20 bucks. So big meal, no flavor,20 bucks, that's about it Except that you're on the river watching it Flow by. When the bill was presented we were again pitched with the $25 Landry's restaurants affinity card. When I complained to the manager she indicated that the waitress was only supposed to talk to us twice about the landreys affinity card during our meal. No Thanks, Landreys, I will take my corporate clients to Ruth's Chris or Outback Before I come back to wanting your joints.

    The view on the patio is always wonderful. The food is usually good, but can be inconsistent. Today we started with the Wedge Salad which looked lovely. The dressing, however, was thin and unremarkable. The amount of bacon and blue cheese crumbles was sparse. My husband ate the Firecracker Shrimp (appetizer). He says it was good, a little sweeter than the Hot Rocks which we've had before. I had the Shrimp Scampi (extra veggies, hold the rice). It was good, but the chef could have been a bit more liberal with the garlic. (To be fair, I like garlic more than the average person.)

    The restaurant is located right on the river front. The server greeted us right away and was knowledgeable about the menu. The food was top notch from the presentation to the taste. A very memorable night out with my family. Thank you.

    Came here to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday, as this is my parents' favorite special occasion restaurant. We've been dining here for many years and can consistently count on great service, food and ambiance. Regina was a delightful server who made sure we were perfectly taken care of. Favorites are coconut shrimp, oysters rockafeller, scallops diablo. King Crab legs are worth the price, as the serving is quite generous.

    This morning the sun was shining, & I knew I wanted to be at the River Crab for lunch! My Hubby & I made the drive and it didn't disappoint! I just love the view of the water, with our Canadian neighbors in the distance. We ordered several items and was very pleased with all of our choices! Visit this place when you want a getaway, that's not so far away! Ask for Jessica, she was a great server!

    Summer rates for the rooms are about $80 weekdays and 110 weekends with outdoor pool and free continental breakfast. River views with freighters going by and a real nice Muer seafood restaurant much like the Chart Houses in Los Angeles.

    I would give it more stars, because the food is excellent, but twice the hostess was not. I'm handicapped so that would normally mean accommodating my lack of ability to walk by seating me accordingly. On both occasions, I (& the group I was with) were seated as far as possible from the entrance. On the second occasion, I called a 'time out' on the walking and sat us halfway. I just couldn't do it. Go for good food, great view of the water and drinks/entertainment. If you have special needs, say so at the door.

    The crab club is awesome but make sure to order it with only two pieces of bread instead of the three it comes with. The firecracker shrimp, scallops and the seared tuna are fantastic. Plus the view of the blue river, Canada and the freighters make for a very enjoyable experience.

    For a wonderful treat you should try the Sunday Brunch. Wonderful breakfast, lunch dinner and dessert all rolled into one. The service was outstanding as was the food. What a great way to spend a Sunday morning. Gazing at the beautiful blue water flowing by your window seat and seeing at least three freighters go by. A less expensive way to enjoy the River Crab is to go for their Sunset dining. (I think that's what it's called). Be seated by 6 pm. The price averages about $20.00 and the portions are larger I really enjoy this place..

    Went here with some local friends on Sat. night for dinner. They had reservations, seemed like a good idea considering how busy it was. The word on the street is, since the "corp" took it over not much has changed, but I have nothing but hearsay to base this on. However the manager won best manager out of 500 places a few years in a row, pretty cool. (and she was extremely pleasant when she came over and chatted with us) The patio was packed, it was a epic night on the river, weather wise. The views are superb. We had a few cocktails waiting a mere 5 minutes to be seated. We sat inside along the river, again, nice views. Started off with some wonderful bread, drinks a'plenty, oysters and conversation. Our service from start to end was wonderful. As mentioned earlier the manager came over and said hello, nice touch. The menu is very extensive, lots of selections to choose from. I started with the Martha vineyards salad (not sure if the name is attributed to more than the obvious) But holy bananas, this little salad was down right incredible! Not kidding, one of the best side/starter salads I have had, ever! And the lobster was very good, all of the meals we ordered looked great, only praises in regards to taste. The place has a wonderful warmth and feel to it, does not put off a corp owned feel. Obviously it appeals to a more mature crowd, however not ancient. It has been here for an eternity, but seems to still carry a family run feel. The service was spot on from start to finish, can't stress this enough.

    We went there recently for dinner and was disappointed with our meals. The drinks, servers and Manager were awesome, but I meal fell short. The shrimp cocktail were not very big shrimp, that were dry. My husband's steak was undercooked, they were very accommodating to take it back and grill to medium. My shrimp dish was awful. the shrimp were overcooked, dry and very crunchy. The pasta was stuck together and keep breaking, as the sauce tasted like tomato sauce from a can. We will come back again to give it another try, but maybe at lunch, a little less expensive for us to try again.

    View was beautiful, food was good, service was not.When we first came in, there was no hostess and we had to wait for one to show up and show us to a table. The inside of the restaurant is dated and dark, so we asked to sit outside. We had a pleasant waitress, but she was quite slow in responding to requests for more water or the bill.

    I've been coming to the River Crab long enough to remember when the cajun chicken and tortellini first appeared - long before it was a regular menu item. Whether it was a family gathering or special occasion, I always loved coming here. Charley's Chowder hasn't changed over the years and it's a knockout! Fantastic bread as well. Once I got a little older and appreciated seafood more I liked this place even more. That being said, they have something for everyone, ie the aforementioned cajun chicken and tortellini. My most recent trip was this summer when I returned home for a few days. Had the chili dusted tuna sandwich for lunch - it was gargantuan and tasty to boot. If you're not a seafood fan and can't be convinced to come here for dinner at all, try brunch. It's a tad pricey for every week consumption, but the spread is delicious and can't be beat locally.

    The food, service and view are amazing!! This restaurant sits on St Clair river....but before I go any further......When we first drove in the parking lot, the motel attached to it, looks a little run down and when you go inside, it is a little dated. Don't let that scare you off. Lets just say, I felt like I was in one of those Restaurants "Tony Soprano" would go to LOL.... They have an outdoor patio and an area of the restaurant that over looks the river that is enclosed from outdoor elements. This is where we were seated and had the best waitress. She was top notch in recommendations and service. We started off with the Portobello Caprese Oven roasted with fresh mozzarella & basil; tomato cream and the Oysters Rockefeller-Accented with béarnaise sauce . Each of these were under $11's. We also ordered Classic Shrimp Scampi -Sautéed in garlic-herb butter; lemon scented sticky rice & chef's vegetable selection and Cajun Chicken Tortellini-Mushrooms, tomatoes, blackened chicken, cheese tortellini; Cajun cream sauce. Each meal was under $20's. The food was fresh and amazing. The chief knew how to cook. I kid you not, we did not talk while we ate. We savored every bite. If you are looking for a excellent meal, awesome service and a great view try this place. PS....if you are coming from Detroit, it is under an hour drive. Enjoy!

    As a surprise we made dinner reservations for our mom to celebrate Mother's Day. There was a small delay in seating us, but it was not a problem. The restaurant was really warm and stuffy. You can still smell cigarette smoke from when smoking was permissible in the restaurant. Although it was busy, we waited two hours for our food. I had the pecan encrusted whitefish, it was soggy and had no seasoning. Sides were also missing from our entrees. My main complaint was how the management and waitstaff dealt with the situation. I can only speculate on what might have happened to have caused the delay.Our waitress was distracted with whatever was happening behind closed doors and stomped around with a scowl on her face. When asked why our food was taking so long she told us that a manager will come by to explain. Fifteen minutes went by and still no manager. We had to ask another waitress to find the manager. When the manager finally came she told us that she was aware of the situation and went to the kitchen and miraculously our food came out. We thanked the manager and told her that we would have understood if we were informed that there were some issues and that there was going to be a delay in the serving of our main course, we would have understood. The manager denied not coming to inform us and insisted that it was good enough that she got our food and we should enjoy it while it was still hot. No apologies and nothing was taken off the bill. I'm not one to expect something to be taken off but all together, we were there for almost 3 hours. The experience was not what I had hoped for to celebrate anything. And one could argue that we should have expected awful service on a special occasion but special occasions are reason for going out to celebrate. If a restaurant can't handle it, maybe they should rethink charging almost $30 for an entrée and replace management with one that can handle providing good service on special events. Happy Mother's day indeed.

    Other than the drive and not carrying my favorite wine ;) this place is really nice. The food is exceptional. In my few visits, I've had the chicken Pinot Grigio, white clam chowder, and the pecan encrusted white fish. We have our work Christmas parties here and they are very accommodating. There is also a hotel attached so in the event we didn't want to make the drive back home we could grab a room.

    We Celebrated our anniversary here this past July 2013 - Absolutely not a bad thing to say. We sat at the bar, had drinks, then were allowed to take our drinks to the patio until dinner - Beautiful day! Dinner, again at the bar, served by a well trained bartender, that wiped every glass as if it were for a queen. Knew the menu and what to suggest. GREAT Service - Fantastic Food. Loved the atmosphere.

    Another reviewer's descriptive is right on - Time-warp. Menu is bland '70's style cream-laden seafood (it IS a Chuck Meur). We used to dine here regularly (sitting in the bar) during the late '80's / '90's. These days the food has become very inconsistent (since late '90's early '00's). We have had calamari TO DIE FOR and the next time we order it, it's soggy, cold, rubbery and bland. The bad meals have greatly outweighed the good ones, so we're not coming back for any more punishment. You are paying a premium for a GREAT river view (if you sit in the dining room, or on the deck). Stuffy, white linen dining room appeals to the sensibilities of blue-haired retirees (I guess retirees with $ have dyed hair and Botox these days, but I digress...). You can get much better quality seafood (in an unpretentious interior) @ Marine City Fish Company - for 1/2 the price.

    My family and I have been coming here for Mother's Day brunch for several years now and are going to be going again this Mother's Day. We usually have a large party of 15 or more people and they've always been so accommodating. The food is delicious and the service is great. The only issue I have is that it gets so crowded around the buffet tables. I wish there was more room to walk about but other than that everything has been wonderful.

    We chose the River Crab to celebrate my parent's wedding anniversary. We were very pleased to see personalized menus for the special occasion that read, "Happy 35th Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Wells"... except that we had no idea who Mr. & Mrs. Wells were. Right anniversary, wrong names. Strike one. My mom and grandmother ordered wine, but they were out of the Malbec that my mom ordered. Strike 2. Then came the food. The complimentary warm rolls and salmon pate were amazing. The appetizer we ordered was so-so - a summer dip selection that included a very tasty hummus, an okay avocado spread and a very bland avocado spread with a side of crackers and cold, slightly stale pita bread. For dinner, my parents made the best choices: Martha's vineyard salads with the Atlantic salmon. I, on the other hand, ordered the BBQ-glazed salmon with mango. The salmon was not glazed in BBQ sauce, it was drowning in it, and the sauce was not very good, more like glorified ketchup - the sauce just sort of ruined perfectly good fish. Strike 3. We also had dessert, but it was nothing memorable - ice cream and sorbet that you could buy at any grocery store. The complimentary chocolate fish at the end were a very nice touch, but not enough to salvage the experience.

    This is a great destination for lunch or dinner on a day-drive from the metro-Detroit area. Note the surrounding town of St. Clair....so lovely! Don't let the parking lot or attached motel deter you from this little jewel on the water. Yes the decor is a bit '70s but its comfortable and inviting. The service and the views are OUTSTANDING! The menu offers numerous selections and all of the meals served to my party were enjoyed wholeheartedly. The 'secret sauce' to this place is the 5-star service and the view onto the water from any part of the establishment. I don't know about other evenings, but on Thursday there's a pianist that plays memorable tunes or one of your suggestions, if you'd like. Overall a very romantic place for a surprising escape.

    After the recommendations from the staff at the Hampton Inn, local hospital clients, and a fellow Yelper, I tried the River Crab with 3 business colleagues. Good call. The hotel made our reservations for us, and we had a table waiting for us overlooking the river. It was a beautiful evening (we could have actually been outside), and the river was beautiful. The 'Hampton connection' gave us a free appetizer, which was calamari with some sort of spicy (ish) sauce, which was AMAZING. Might have been the most tender calamari that I've ever had. Very well done. A fairly expansive wine menu (although I don't drink), and very good bread, including jalapeño cheddar biscuits. Quite good, and right up my alley! The waitress was very accommodating, and the menus (which I though was hilarious, especially since I might not have been dressed to the level of this) had "Welcome to the ######### Party" printed across the top, and the table even had a VIP card on it. Yes, it was like entourage or something (without all the craziness). But seriously, it was a nice touch, and they apparently do similar things for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. It's nice. So, the food. I had blackened lake whitefish, with the 'Charley' topping at the recommendation of the waitress, which was sautéed mussels, mushrooms, and scallops. It was terrific. Truly. I didn't have room for dessert, although the offerings sounded QUITE good. I wish my wife had been with me for this dessert menu (well, I wish she was with me most of the time, but a dude has to work!). All in all, this was really well done - nice setting, great service, and all of our food was quite good. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area.

    The best thing going for this place is the view. The restaurant looks out onto Lake Saint Clair, and it is really peaceful and beautiful. On the other hand, the food is pretty unremarkable, and not cheap. I guess I've never been really wowed by Chuck Meur offerings. It always seems that the food is bland and expensive. Although I didn't eat seafood, my tablemates were not so happy with their salmon. I think it would be a better idea to find one of the handful smallish places on the lake in Algonac or St. Clair, which are probably more reasonable and have better food.

    Meh; ignoring the abysmal bathrooms the atmosphere is nice. The food is slightly above average, but should be much better for the price. Sadly this is about the only viable option for a nice seafood meal in our area. I ordered the Filet Mignon once and had to send it back twice due to it being completely raw inside. I've also been put off due to the fish swimming in more oil than necessary. Great salmon pâté and crackers though.

    I go here for Sunday brunch every time I go visit the bf's parents. I can't review the other menu items, but the brunch buffet is pretty good. They've got a nice assortment of brunch fixins - waffles, omelets, potatoes, beef, crab legs, bagels, pasta, fish...and the service is good. They take reservations for Sunday and it's a good idea to make one if you plan to get there after 10:30. The reviews below are correct - the view from the North side of the restaurant is great - you can drive your boat right up if you have one. I also love the quartet that moves through the restaurant on Sundays. Apparently the same guys have been playing for over 20 years.

    We come out here periodically for brunch with my parents and solo for an overnight stay or two. The trick is to arrive when they open for brunch for the freshest and best food, easy trick when you are staying there. We also like to sit on the covered patio area and enjoy the view. I love the lox here, cured in dill, served with egg, red onion and capers. It has the bagels and cream cheese that make it a top notch choice for breakfast. I also love it when they have the smoked bluefish, oh so tasty. They often have cold mussels with jalapenos and cold crab legs which my dad loves. He asks for cracking devices and warmed butter and has a blast. I love the endless bacon and the hot mussels, especially when they are in casino or a dijon cream sauce. My husband loves the made to order omelets and the sausage. The regular food is hit or miss on the buffet in my opinion. We all really like the fresh made waffles with fruit and whipped cream to jazz them up. The dessert bar is happy with trifle, various pastries and made to order bananas foster which is yummy. The hotel is hit or miss based on which room you get, we have several that we quite like a lot. It is older yes and a bit run down in some rooms but overall it's very clean and not at all unpleasant. Seriously there is not much to pick from that is better around here, most of it is far worse, trust me on this. They give you a continental breakfast that is pleasant enough too. I like the views of the water and hopping downstairs for happy fun happy hour they run from 3pm until 7 pm weekdays. Five buck specialty martinis and cocktails, four dollar wines, 3.25 premium drafts and 2.50 for domestics and well drinks, cheap and happy. Drinks are very healthy and not skimped on at all. They also have a list of fun appetizers that run between three and five smackeroos. Dinner and lunch in here is very good. I adore their freebie salmon pate and usually end up taking some home. Fish is fresh and you can have it done a variety of ways with various sauces and accoutrements. I like the snapper hemingway and the macadamia encrusted mahi mahi but I usually get a special. Waitstaff is wonderful and often will give good advice on what is best or really popular with other guests. All in all I like it. It is not glam but it is fun, has nice views and I find it a pleasant experience every time.

    Went here with a group of 12 for a birthday on Saturday 8/25/12. It had been a few years since I had been here, so I was looking forward to checking it out again. Needless to say it may be a few more years before I go again. We arrived promptly for a 7:00 pm reservation and it was nearly 10:00 pm before we left. Every aspect of dinner was PAINFULLY slow. I understand that this is meant to be a "fine dining" restaurant, but 20 minutes to get drinks, 30 minute appetizers, over an hour for our dinner, and another 30 minutes to get our bills is just crazy. I have to say that the almond encrusted brie we had as an appetizer was amazing, but it was forgotten when I got my $30 seafood trio. My plate consisted of a 2-3 oz piece of salmon, 4 obviously frozen prepackaged coconut shrimp, and a very small crab cake which were all STONE COLD. Not luke warm, but flat out frigid. I wanted to tell our server, but she was no where to be found. The experience was bad enough before the piano player began playing "it's a small world" over and over. Seriously, we heard it no fewer than five times. That song brings back bad memories of a horrible ride at Disney World, it doesn't scream dinner music in an elegant restaurant. Overall it was not worth the $90 I spent of my wife's and my dinner. What a disappointment!

    It's a glorious morning. The air is fresh and crisp. The cloudless sky is cobalt blue and seas azure. The sound track playing in my head is "The Blue" by David Gilmour "Shameless Sea Aimlessly so blue Midnight moon shines For you Still marooned Silence drifting through Nowhere to choose Just blue" If you know David, you know what he's capable of. When the guitar sings about halfway through this track, she says more to describe this scene that any thousand words I could write. At one point, he uses a petal steel to bend notes in such a way to create whale chatter... Brilliant. I'm sitting at my table on the porch at the River Crab in St. Clair enjoying my first cup of coffee taking in a sight as remarkable as anything in the Caribbean. And it's only 40 minutes from home. There is a slight disturbance. My waitress asks "Would you care for the Sunday Brunch, Sir?" "Yes, absolutely!" And what a glorious brunch spread it is. Something for everyone. For the breakfast lover, Eggs Benedict, Belgian Waffles with fresh berries and real whipped cream, made to order omelets, sausage, bacon, salsaed hash browns and orange juice squeezed fresh on the premises that morning. For the pastry lover, an assortment, but the clear standout is the hot cinnamon buns that make the mall store bons seem like diet food. For the meat lover, garlic encrusted roast beef, glazed ham and marinated pork loin sliced to order. Also a beef and noodle dish that was unmarked, but remarkable. And for the seafood lover, shrimp, crab legs, mussels, lox & cream cheese and a BBQ salmon that was fantastic. Finishing it off with Bananas Foster and another cup of coffee, my mind returns to the water. I've been here dozens of times and I've never seen the river so calm, so peaceful, so blue. There's another disturbance, a freighter drifts into view. She's an ore carrier and she's riding high in the water. On her way to Superior to return full of the main ingredients that go into making the moving sculpture we call automobiles. As she silently passes, her wake follows for miles. Lapping up against the shore, so relaxing, so blue. This porch may well be my favorite place on the planet to enjoy a great meal.

    If you've ever been up to St. Clair Michigian (not St. Clair Shores!) the first thing you'll notice is, they (the town) are in some sort of weird time warp.. It's like, anything new just sort of passed them by...it's kind of bizarre because you see it in almost everything. The people have a certain look about them, their "mall" consists of 2 or 3 antique and/or knitting (yarn) stores....lol.. It's laughable really... With that being said, I feel like the River Crab was absolutely no different, it seemed very dated, and not with the times. I visited for happy hour. My friend and I split several appetizers as they were half off. The waitress wasn't sure how to make cocktails, and the apps were okay, some deep friend items, that didn't taste that great. We had to ask what one of the appetizers was because of it's uncommon name, turned out it was a plate of veggies with some ranch dip...okaaayy... haha... I wouldn't mind going back and sitting outside with a nice (hopefully) seafood entree... We'll see, I don't get out there very much.

    The River Crab is definitely among my favorite restaurants in St Clair County. Usually reserved for special occasions, I can't seem to avoid the Surf and Turf. Salads always have a little extra character and the veggies on the side are carefully presented. Chocolate Fish for dessert are REAL and delicious (real choco not real fish) so it will melt in your hands. I don't typically go here during the busier times, so the service is usually very good. I have noticed that when it gets slammed the service can suffer, so be aware of that. Also the quarters can get a little tight during the busier times. Try it on a week night if you can. This unfortunately is the reason I can't comment on the brunch (I've never been) though I hear it is delicious.

    Drove all the way up to the River Crab from metro Detroit for a special birthday celebration. Our waitress was friendly and service was fine, but the burnt ashes from previously burned steaks crisscrossed over our very expensive steak entrees left a horrible taste in our mouths. So sad the chefs ruin fine food & celebrations because they are too lazy to clean the grills. Unfortunate. The RC used to be a favorite restaurant.

    I have always been a huge River Crab fan. When you make a reservation, ask for a table with a view. Looking out onto the water really adds to the dining experience. All of the fresh fish is delicious. I always get the perch and it never disappoints. The wine list contains many great selections. There is a yummy chocolate dessert with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge-YUM. A few tips-be sure to mention when you call if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. The restaurant printed up special menus for us on our 10th anniversary. It was a nice touch. Also- join the frequent dining club. It is free and you can earn points toward free meals at participating restaurants. I always feel like I get better seating with this membership too.

    Came here for the "famous?" brunch, and came away underwhelmed. After you pass the sketchy hotel (which we stayed at, and suggest you stay somewhere else...) The restuarant is actually semi inviting with a nice view of the river and canada with an obvious warm wood and nautical decor. The staff is also very nice and seemed to want to do a good job. As with many Chuck Muer restaurants, the problem is the food, and it just seemed to lack spark or distinctiveness. The eggs were a bit overcooked, the roast beef (allthough looked tastey) was on the tough side, the lox tasted elderly, and the crab was ok, but just wanted to be fresher. It is a large amount of food for the price, but I just came away disappointed. On the positive note, the $3 bloody mary's are big, good and cheap, (Drink enough and everything else may not matter...) and the banana's foster was very good. My wife enjoyed the desert table. Finally, from what I can tell, there may not be many choices in Saint Clair soooo......

    This is definitely the cream of the crop for restaurant offerings in St Clair. Their seafood is fantastic. I'm particularly a fan of the blackened swordfish, the parmesan encrusted sole, and the snapper. Good desserts, excellent view of the water, warm decor, and a top-notch Sunday brunch. The Voyager and The Inn do not stack up - The Crab is tops. Don't listen to the earlier reviewers as they obviously don't understand the point of a review. Vegetarians complaining about the smell of fish in a seafood restaurant? How helpful - I should one-star your favorite veggie restaurant for not selling enough steak. Another says the food is unremarkable but doesn't eat seafood. I understand your disappointment, but this is like critiquing a baseball player on his jump shot. So useless.

    I remember when this was a very special place to eat. I went there with my wife, late on a Sunday afternoon. Not crowded at all. Seated, with a beautiful view of the water and watched the boats. Very nice. The menu looked wonderful and the server was pleasant. But it went down hill from there. We started with bowls of the soup. One New England clam chowder, one Charlie's chowder. The soup was good, but hardly a bowl; more like a cup poured into a shallow bowl. My wife had the Classic Shrimp Scampi with sticky rice instead of pasta. Four shrimp, a scoop of rice and asparagus. I'm not convinced they were fresh. I had the Seared Diver Scallops. My dish, which had four scallops with a bland sauce and some other un-identified ingredients with mushroom slices and asparagus was blah. It was edible, not bad enough to return, but just not tasty. After we were served, we did not see our waitress. After we finished eating we needed to ask another of the waitstaff to find her for our bill. We were very disappointed. We wanted a nice dinner and for $80.00, I really expected more. I don't think I'll go back. There are lots of nice places to eat, with better food for less.

    Enjoyed another nice meal here on Saturday evening with the family. I ordered the King Crab Legs and they were excellent. This still is certainly one of the best restaurants to go to in St. Clair County for seafood... but, my FAVORITE is now the "Marine City Fish Company". If you enjoy high-quality seafood, you should give them a try. They are just a small little place in Marine City, but the food is top-notch stuff. I'm not kidding here, if you enjoy the food at the River Crab, you owe it to yourself to head down to Marine City sometime. The overall ambiance is nothing like the "Crab", but the food is every bit as good, if not better...

    Great Mother's Day surprise from my daughter and granddaughter unfortunately there was a mix up in the reservation she had made over 2 months ago and we arrived a half hour late. The place was packed and clearly overbooked with people standing about inside and out waiting. We would have been happy to come back later but we were escorted to the worst booth in the place next to the noisy kitchen and wait staff area. This area has no windows and very little lighting making it difficult to look at my cards or gifts. Additionally due to the over booking they could not keep the buffet filled. Just a horrible experience for what is usually a great brunch with family. My lasting thought don't be late if you dont want to be banished to the naughty corner! :-(
